One of my ancestors on my fathers sidecame from Affeln ins Deutschland. His name was Heinrich von Aphelen and he came to Trondheim in Norway, and his son Hans von Aphelen became the mayor of Trondheim the Capital of Norway at that time. I have papers from the catholic church in Germany showing that the name and ancestors were legal advisers to the archbishop of Cologne since the year 1156. They had property/"gutes" in Affeln, schwitten and Hubelhem and in and around 1500 they also were advisers to the counts of Arnsberg as well. The norwegian Altar of the church in Affeln stems from Trondheim - as St. Olav is painted on the vdery same altar. It confirms the binding with the mayorship in Trondheim at the same time around 1592-97. My family and other family members are seeking information why my ancestors became " in Dienst" for the Danish king ruling Norway at that time??? It appears probably to be the fact that our German ancestors were learned and provided the vital and necessary leadership for the Danish Kingdom. Paintings of later ancestors (priests) is to be found in the church of Otterøy - outside the town of Namsos in te middle of Norway as well. It would be very interesting to develop the contact again with Affeln - with the church of Affeln etc. which is closely linked to the von Aphelen name. |
